Monica Christa Schirdewahn graduated from
McGill University Law School’s National Programme in 1999, earning
both her Bachelor of Laws and her Bachelor of Civil Law (LLB, B.C.L.)
with Distinction. As part of her legal education, Monica received the Certificat
d’initiation aux modes non-judiciaires de resolution de conflit
having participated in the McGill Arbitration Programme organized by the
Québec National and International Commercial Arbitration Centre. Monica’s
education included studies abroad in Paris and Lyon, France.
Monica grew up with a German upbringing at home and within the German-speaking communities in Montréal. She received her Diploma II in 1991, certifying her fluency in German and has remained active throughout her life in the Austrian, German, and Swiss communities of Montréal.
Monica was called to the Québec Bar in May, 2001. She has been with Lette & Associés since 1997, during which time she also worked at Lette, Lette & Associés in Paris.
As a result of her fluency in German, as well as her special interest in private international law, a large part of her practice is spent with European clients and Europeans living in Canada. This requires her to regularly advise clients on issues of jurisdiction, give legal opinions with respect to Canadian law, and work with her clients mainly in files relating to corporate law, estates and real estate in an international context.
Monica collaborates with the German Chamber of Commerce, the German as well as other Consulates in Montréal, and works closely with organizations such as the Goethe Institute and the Swiss-Canadian Benevolent Society.
